This year's festival, our fourth annual, will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2010.
The fest opens at 2 p.m., and we'll present live jazz from 3 to 10 p.m.
For our 2010 Jazz Fest Glen Ellyn we are pleased to present:
3:00 Jo Ann Daugherty Trio
Pianist/composer Jo Ann Daugherty has performed with her own group and others throughout the U.S. and
abroad, including the Chicago Jazz Fest in 2008. She has released two CDs and is currently working on a
new album of original compositions for release later in 2010. Jo Ann has performed with Randy
Brecker, John Abercrombie, Howard Levy, and many others. She performs frequently throughout Chicago
as both a leader and sideman, with a particular enthusiasm for new works.
4:30 Andreas Kapsalis & Goran Ivanovic Guitar Duo
The Andreas Kapsalis & Goran Ivanovic Guitar Duo celebrates the tradition of old
school guitar performance, yet embraces the current rapport while building a new
repertoire for the next generation of guitar players. Kapsalis' Spanish-inflected playing
complements the Serbian compositional and improvisational mind of world-renowned
Goran Ivanovic, providing an acoustic cinematic experience.
6:00 Ava Logan Quartet featuring Bruce Oscar
Award winning actress and jazz vocalist Ava Logan performs music from the Great
American Songbook, including tunes recorded by Nancy Wilson, Ella Fitzgerald and
Lena Horne. Bruce Oscar is best known as the afternoon host of WDCB's All Things
Jazz, but he is also a frequent accompanist, and for leading his own jazz trio.
7:30 Darwin Noguera’s Evolution Sextet
Darwin Noguera’s Evolution is one of new and exciting voices in Latin Jazz to come out of the
Midwest. With Nicaraguan pianist and composer Darwin Noguera spearheading this ensemble, alongside
trumpeter Victor Garcia, tenor saxophonist Rocky Yera, bassist Joshua Ramos, drummer Juan Pastor and percussionist
Victor Gonzalez, this group has proved to be bold, refreshing, and daring to go into uncharted waters.
Evolution is well-known for its virtuosity in the Latin and Jazz idioms, accomplishing an unusually
fluid integration. They derive their influences from American Jazz, Afro-Cuba, and Central/South American
rhythms such as Festejo, Lando, & Son Nica. Their debut album “The Gardener” on the Chicago Sessions jazz
label was well-received. Darwin and Victor are the founders of Chicago's premiere Latin jazz big band,
The Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble.
9:00 Richie Cole Alto Madness featuring Henry Johnson
Renowned bebop alto sax player, arranger, composer and educator Richie Cole
has earned a reputation as one of the master sax players of his time, having played
with Buddy Rich, Lionel Hapton and Doc Severinsen. He’s traveled the world, performing
in various venues and recorded more than 50 albums. Cole’s Alto Madness
features guitarist Henry Johnson who has toured with Jack McDuff, Ramsey Lewis and jazz legend Joe Williams.
