Musical Line-Up
3:00 CHICAGO HOT FIVE DIXIE/TRAD BAND
Trombonist Roy Rubinstein's Chicago Hot Six has been playing trad music in Chicago since 1979. The repertoire includes standards, but emphasizes such little-known tunes as "Saratoga Swing," Duke Ellington's "Shout 'Em Aunt Tillie," "S'il Vous Plait" and "Blessed Quietness". The Chicago Hot Five includes: Roy Rubinstein (trombone), John Skillman (clarinet), Jack Kuncl (banjo), Mike Zudis (bass), and Jim Carney (drums)
4:15 KELLY BRAND TRIO
Kelly Brand has been an active player on the Chicago jazz scene for many years. She has performed at the Chicago Jazz Festival, at Symphony Center (Orchestra Hall), at Ravinia with her own Nextet and with Marion McPartland playing duets, on Joe Segal's Jazz Cruise, and at the Elkhart Jazz Festival. In addition she works in jazz clubs, records, and teaches. Kelly is a gifted composer and has been awarded several residencies at the Ragdale Foundation retreat in Lake Forest, Illinois. Kelly's Trio includes: Kelly Brand (piano), Kelly Sill (bass), and Jon Deitemyer (drums)
5:30 MARK COLBY QUARTET
Mark has performed with Gerry Mulligan, Jaco Pastorius, Frank Sinatra, Maynard Ferguson, Bob James, Charlie Haden, Mose Allison, and others. He is a first call studio musician, and has been a jazz faculty member at DePaul University since 1983, as well as Elmhurst College. Currently, he is performing as a guest soloist and clinician/ adjudicator at high schools and colleges throughout the United States representing the Selmer Company. Mark's quartet includes: Mark Colby (tenor sax), Frank Caruso (piano), Dennis Carroll (bass), and Keith Brooks (drums)
6:45 TAMMY McCANN QUARTET
Tammy McCann is an internationally experienced jazz vocalist whose powerful, sultry and soulful voice paints pictures and tells stories by merging jazz, with blues and gospel music. She pays homage to standards (with a twist), yet is excited by new music and integrating various genres into jazz. Tammy's quartet includes: Tammy McCann (vocals), Tom Viatsas (piano), Dan Anderson (bass), and Perry Wilson (drums)
8:15 DEEP BLUE ORGAN TRIO
The Deep Blue Organ Trio began its journey in 1992 playing engagements at Chicago's Cotton Club and Back Room. At the Cotton Club, a weekly gig which lasted for two years, the group developed its sound and musical mission... celebrating the classic jazz combo configuration of the Hammond B3 organ, guitar and drums, as well as the Black-American experience through music, while bringing a modern edge to this musical timepiece. The Deep Blue Organ Trio includes: Bobby Broom (guitar), Chris Foreman (organ), and Greg Rockingham (drums)
AFTER-FEST
